Homestudy term 2 week 6

Verbs

This week's homestudy includes a question about verbs.

Here are some great videos to help you learn what verbs are!

Making Fossils

Room 20 have been learning about fossils!

We made our own fossils, using a clay mold and plaster of paris.

As you can see, a number of them broke. Mr Mainwaring learned that you need to use a thick layer of plaster.

Our Assembly

You may have read about our planning for assembly in an earlier post

Well, here is the result, which we presented at assembly today!

You can also view it on youtube via this private link.

Rain rain rain

It's too wet today to go outside. We are stuck inside!

Even though we have lots of energy, we are being respectful and responsible.

Bilal says: "If we run around on the field we might slip".

Sam says: "The sky's gone all patchy."

Thursday sentence of the day

We have been working on trying out new words, and using conjunctions. Here is Millie's fantastic sentence!

"I was dismantling my Lego but then my big black dog ate some of it."

Sometimes school is tough...

In the homestudy, students had to reflect on something they found tricky this week.

Rumman said "Art, because it got my hands icky and sticky, so it was hard to control my art."

Bilal said "This week art was tricky because I couldn't draw a bird"

Denise said "I found tricky my 6, 7 and 8 times tables, because I have never done them before. But when I use my 5 times tables it makes it easier for me to solve and work out the answer".

Assembly ideas

We are on assembly next week, so we need ideas for our presentation!

We are now live-blogging our brainstorming session - hope you enjoy!

Here are our ideas

Next, we needed to figure out what would make a good presentation:

 - Makes people laugh
 - Make people clap
 - Be interesting
 - Can we do it in less than 1 week?
 - Would I want to watch this?

Our finalists were:

Making funny videos - 14 - Would take too long
Sharing the class blog - 1
Pictures of people being respectful - 2
People playing on the playground - 7
Building something - 6 - Would be interesting!
A serious video - 2 Would take too long

In the end, we decided to try to make a funny video of us building something.

Stay tuned for the results!

Star sentence of the day

We have been learning to write complex sentences.

Here is Bilal's awesome example. Can you spot the complex conjunction?

"The baby owls waited patiently in the nest, although their mum did not come."

Mr Mainwaring has a lot of marking to take home on his bike.

We've been busy!

Learning happens everywhere!

In Room 20, we know that we learn everywhere and from everyone - not just at school with the teacher. Komal has learned a new art and craft technique.

"I cut out a picture from this little magazine and I stuck it on a piece of paper and coloured it in. It's about people on an obstacle course. I got the idea of making it pop up when my friends showed me a video."

Class Dojo!

We have been practicing staying on task and participating in learning

To help remind us of this, we get points on Class Dojo.

Every time we collect 50 points, we get to choose a reward!

Distraction Dilemma

Vicky asked to sit at the independent work station. When asked why she replied "so I don't get distracted doing my maths." I asked Vicky to reflect on her choice.  "I made a good choice.  It helped me to finish my work early and not get distracted. "

Who and What helps us Learn?

Today we are thinking about who and what helps us to learn.  I shared the term Ubiquity with the class and Ruby asked a really good question-Do you only learn stuff in the class? Serafina pointed out that you learning swimming in a swimming pool.
We created learning maps to visually show what we know about who and what helps us to learn.

Reflective Raynah

The reflective question was: what helped you learn something new?

Raynah answered "if you sit next to your friend,  you get disturbed and you can't finish your work in time.  If you sit away from your friends you can get your work finished.

Reflective Learners

Sam, Millie and Komal have chosen to reflect on their learning after completing their maths.
We roll dice that correspond to a reflective question on our wall display.
